Ticketing
Today marks the rollout of easy ticketing. If you’re an existing Technolene managed services client, and you’re running Windows, you’ll notice a new icon on your desktop that allows you to submit a support request without having to pick up the phone, text, or email. You can still reach out the old way, but now you don’t have to!
If you’re NOT one of our managed services clients, why not schedule a consultation, so we can make sure we’ve got you properly covered?
It could happen to you
On the road to Salvation Mountain.
I’m so smart. I’d never fall for one of those phishing links in an email or Instagram. No way, not me! Hell, I’m the ridiculously responsive, user friendly IT guy!
Well, let’s not get too cocky. About a week ago, an old client messaged me on Instagram about his new clothing line. Since he was in the clothing business, it seemed like a legitimate request. I saw this as an opening to reconnect, tell him about The Courage Run, and maybe even introduce him to managed IT services. So I checked out his posts to make sure it was actually him, and then I clicked the link.
Boy was I sorry. The hacker immediately changed the account email address and enabled two-factor authentication. They reached out to all my followers over the next several days and tricked at least two of them into clicking the link.
My efforts to recover the account ran into brick wall after brick wall, though I haven’t given up. I’m using the methods described in Jared Daun’s excellent tutorial, Recover a Hacked Instagram Account FAST 2022 (This really works!). I expect to get my account back, eventually, but so far I’ve submitted about half a dozen video selfies and posed with a special code hand written on a blank sheet of paper. Instagram doesn’t believe me quite yet.
Why is it so easy for a hacker to hijack our stuff, yet so hard to get it back? Shouldn’t there be a Hacker Hotline we can call, or a more streamlined recovery process? Cmon, Instagram, make it happen!
Although I’m kicking myself for falling into the hacker’s trap, I feel good about what I’m doing to help others avoid these heartaches. My managed services clients get a comprehensive package of protection that includes backup, business continuity, cutting edge antivirus and malware prevention, along with SaaS backup and defense (to protect their Microsoft 365 and Google Workspaces accounts). Through my partners, I also offer fun and informative cyber security training for clients who want to get their employees and themselves up to speed on the latest threats, and how to deal with them.
Maybe I’m not always so smart. But in my quest to provide the best possible service to my clients, I make sure to surround myself with people who are smarter than me, have expertise in areas that I don’t, and admit when I fall in the dirt.
Have you fallen for a hacker’s line? Have you failed in any sort of colossal way? How’d you pick yourself up out of the dirt?
