Live Large. Be Bold. Have Faith. Fear Nothing.
In trying times, we all need a quiet place to speak our minds. A place where we can leave our troubles and conflicts, where we can express ourselves freely without judgment or cancellation. This is where I come to share my thoughts with you, my dear friends and family. My goal is to inspire you, to provoke thought, to help you grow personally and professionally, and to feel welcome. I hope you'll enjoy our time together on this marvelous journey.
Why this?
Many years ago, I was a long distance runner. During summer break from college, I used to hit the pavement with my friend Bernard. We had one loop in particular that he called "The Courage Run." It was about four miles long, and at the end, there was a monstrous hill that was both steep and long. I loved that hill, and how it made us feel courageous every single time. We had an eight mile version of The Courage Run that had TWO such hills. That one was also called The Courage Run. So when one of us would call the other and say "let's go on The Courage Run," we always had to answer, "which one."
These days, runs of any length or bravery level are a long distant memory. But we do go on a nightly walk with Zookie and Mazie.
COVID, Trump, Trans People,
and Muslims
Controversy's on my mind. Not any particular controversy, but the fact that pretty much everything is controversial these days. Joe Rogan. Canadian truckers. Masks and vaxx. Joe Biden's ice cream flavor. We're not going to shy away from controversy here at The Courage Run, though we're not going to seek it out, either (it'll find us, I'm sure). We'll be highlighting stories from guest contributors as we move forward. People with opinions. Maybe you'd like to be a contributor. Send me a note to contributor@thecouragerun.com, and I'll fill you in on the requirements.
Your assignment for next week's meeting
This one's for my BNI people. Or anyone else who wants to grow their business. Every week, I include a handful of podcasts for your consideration. We talk about what we learned at the following meeting, which happens every Tuesday at 7am on Zoom. Shoot me an email if you'd like to attend sometime.
I'm struggling through last week's podcasts. I assigned two separate podcasts on Plato's Allegory of the Cave. Important stuff. Interesting stuff. Hard to slog through stuff. There was also a BNI podcast on embracing the suck. And premature solicitations.
For next week, if you're a BNI member or simply wish to come along for the ride, we'll be discussing online networking from Ivan Misner's 29% Solution. But don't be fooled, online networking isn't easier. Because, since when is anything easier than the harder thing it was supposed to replace?
My friend and photography teacher, Hugh Brownstone, turned me onto Blinkist. It's a great way to grab big ideas in small bites. Like how to be a power connector!
Virtual desktops (asking for a friend)
I've been obsessed with virtual desktops for about the past fifteen years. I want to be able to get onto any computer, tablet, phone, or some as-yet to be invented device, and I want to be able to access all my stuff. One of the companies providing this type of service is Workspot. Do you know any businesses that would like to deploy 50+ virtual desktops or 20+ virtual workstations? Please give me a heads up!
